Why "Not for Human Consumption"?
You will see this label on every research peptide product, not just ours. This designation is not an indication that a product is unsafe or untested. It reflects the regulatory and economic realities of bringing compounds through the FDA approval process. Here are the four primary reasons:
FDA Approval Costs
The pathway to FDA approval costs hundreds of millions of dollars, making it prohibitive for smaller organizations and independent research suppliers. This cost barrier means many promising compounds remain classified for research use only.
Scale of Required Trials
Beyond approval fees, mandatory preclinical and clinical trials require enormous budgets, infrastructure, and years of study. These trials are feasible for pharmaceutical giants but remain out of reach for smaller organizations operating in the research space.
Patent Limitations
Many peptides are closely related to naturally occurring proteins and amino acid sequences, which limits their patentability. Without strong patent protection, there is reduced commercial incentive to invest in the full approval process.
"Off-Label" Competition
Physicians may prescribe FDA-approved drugs for off-label uses, broadening the competitive landscape. Even when a peptide counterpart exists, this off-label prescribing reduces the market incentive for companies to pursue separate approval for research compounds.
An Important Clarification
